The Sena A0302 clamp kit adds to the flexibility of the SMH10 Bluetooth headset system. Similar to the A0301 clamp kit that is included with the SMH10 headset kit, this clamp also has helmet speakers, but includes a two microphones, and you may use either one depending on your helmet type.

The first is a boom-type microphone. Unlike the A0301 clamp, the A0302 mics aren't permanently attached to the clamp, itself. Rather, these mics are on a long connectorized lead, permitting easy placement within the helmet. For example, the boom mic is ideal for a modular/flip helmet. The mic will affix to the inner shell of the helmet - between the shell and the liner. The long lead insures that the mic will reach in front of the mouth, where are the A0301's boom may be a bit short in some instances.

For a full-face helmet, there's another very thin mic (1/8", 3.2mm thick X 3/4", 19mm diameter) that affixes directly to the chin bar. Where you'd want to use this mic instead of the mic from the A0301 clamp kit is if your mouth is very close to the chinbar and you'd find it difficult to tuck the boom mic in front of your mouth, after donning the helmet. Also, if you're on a dirt bike, or dual-sport, this mic is a good choice.

One thing to keep in mind, is on dual sport helmets, or street helmets that have a vent in the chinbar, this may cause unwanted noise to be picked up inthe microphone. To alleviate this, moving the mic a bit may help, otherwise block the chinbar vent with a piece of smooth, loop-side Velcro.

IMPORTANT: About alignment of the helmet speakers... Think of these speakers as a pair of stereo headphones. If you put the headphones directly over your ears, they sounds terrific. If you move them 1/4" (6.4mm) away from your ears, the volume delivered drops off substantially. Same concept for helmet speakers. The speakers must be aligned exactly with your ear canals. If these are even just 1/4" off center of your ear canal, you will lose at least HALF of the volume.

How to align the speakers:

  • Install the clamp kit, and install one speaker in the helmet's ear pocket, using a piece of tape or two to hold it in place, temporarily.
  • Pair the headset to a music source, and play to some music you are familiar with.
  • Put the helmet on and listen to the volime of the music.
  • Move the helmet up and down, side-to-side, and rock it front-to-back.
    • If the music gets louder in any position, remove the helmet, move the speaker, and retest the above procedure.
  • Once you are confident that one speaker is just right, affix it into the speaker pocket with the Velcro pad.
  • Install the second speaker in the similar location in the other ear pocket.

Occasionally, even when aligned correctly, on some helmets, the speaker is far from the ears on account of the helmet's ear pockets being very deep. If this is the case, and the speakers need to be moved closer to the ears, we have special double-sided Velcro foam pads available for this purpose. We stock two thicknesses 6mm (1/4") and 12mm (1/2"). You'll find these under the Autocom section of our site, part numbers AC-2159 and AC-2160, or search on 'Autocom foam'.
