Are you looking to get better transmit range and improved reception on your portable FRS or GMRS two-way radio? The Rocket Moto Stealth Blade Antenna kit is easily hidden on a vertical surface such as a plastic inner rear fender on a street bike or on the outside of a rear fender or adhered to the windscreen on a dual-sport bike.
The typical rubber duck antenna that is included with a hand-held transceiver is a 'loss' antenna, and it has about 5dB of 'loss'. (A dB is a 'decibel', which is power measurement relative to a reference - in this case the rated power output of the radio's transmitter.) What this means is that our Kenwood TK-3300's 2-watt radio transmitter, when using a rubber duck antenna, has an Effective Radiated Power (ERP) of about one-fifth (1/5) of two watts, or only .4 watts! That rubber duck antenna will induce additional loss if placed near a metal object like the bike's frame, for example. Not only does that rubber duck antenna induce loss on the transmit signal, but it significantly reduces the sensitivity of the receiver by the same ratio, as well. The rubber duck antenna is for convenience only, not performance.
Now, the big advantage to our Stealth Blade Antenna is that it affords a 2dB gain, or gives an ERP of about 3.16 watts (2 watts x 1.58 'gain') on that Kenwood radio, and that's a far cry from the puny .4 watts with that rubber duck antenna! Not only does the radio now have superior transmit range as compared to when using the rubber duck antenna, but the receiver's sensitivity is effectively improved by the same relative amount.
Our Stealth Blade Antenna is a perfect compliment for your two-way radio!
Additional Information
| IMPORTANT | This antenna is only compatible with FRS and GMRS 450-470MHz two-way radios that have removable antennas. These are typically 'professional series' radios from Kenwood, iCom, Motorola, Black Box and others. Consumer-type radios often purchased online or at big box or sporting goods stores do not have removable antennas and are not compatible with this antenna. Our kit includes a Female SMA antenna connector as utilized on Kenwood portable radios. If your radio requires a Male SMA Connector (typical for iCom), or are unsure which connector your radio requires, please contact Rocket Moto Customer Service for assistance prior to ordering. |
