Details

While permissible to utilize a commonplace 'Battery Tender' to charge your Shorai LFX battery, the specially engineered charging and maintenance system is unique in that it individually charges each cell to insure the longest and maximum performance from the world's most advanced powersports battery.

The BMS01 serves up a maximum 2Amp charge rate at precisely the correct voltage, and connects via the BMS' 5-pin port on all LFX batteries. Easily selectable modes for full charge, or long-term storage. Input 100V/240VAC, 50/60Hz. This model includes a North American style AC adapter plug, intended for 110~120V only. A locally purchased adapter plug may be utilized if your AC mains plug type is different.

We get the question all the time; "Can I use a Battery Tender on a Shorai battery?"

IMPORTANT: While not optimal, a Battery Tender will charge the Shorai LFX -- you *must not* utilize a smart charger that has a 'desulfation mode', like Optimate or Accumate. While these are terrific chargers for lead acid batteries, using one on a Shorai battery could likely damage it.

Yes, you can use a Battery Tender (brand) charger. When connected to a Shorai battery, they're not optimal, and you definitely wouldn't use it they way you'd use one on a traditional lead-acid battery; here's why --

The Shorai battery has a higher terminal voltage than a lead-acid powersports battery. Consequently, the Battery Tender cannot charge the Shorai to the proper voltage. You'd only want to use the Battery Tender if your Shorai battery is nearly dead, and then maybe only for 30 minutes, or so, to give it a boost to start your bike. You definitely do not want to use the Battery Tender to maintain the Shorai battery. Furthermore, the Shorai has a very low self-discharge rate, so unless your bike has a lot of electronics that drain the battery when the bike isn't running (clock, ECU, etc) and you don't ride regularly, charging the battery shouldn't be needed.

The Shorai BMS-01 battery maintenance system charges and diagnoses each cell individually to the optimal voltage. You can use the BMS-01 on a Shorai battery, as you would a 'regular charger' on a lead-acid battery.
